Daniel Sebugwawo,
Founder and Director of Suubi Community Development Organisation
I was born from a simple but powerful belief:
every child can learn, just not in the same way or at the same pace.
I am Daniel Sebugwawo, founder and director of Suubi Community Development Organisation. My journey began in rural Uganda, where I witnessed firsthand how poverty and limited access to education continue to hold communities back.
Years after visiting my family’s village in Kakindu, Mubende District, I returned to find over 50 children learning inside a fragile makeshift structure, the only school in the area.
Many walked more than 10 kilometers each day simply for a chance to learn. Their struggles reflected my own childhood growing up as an orphan under my grandmother’s care. I often went to school hungry, struggled academically, and nearly dropped out.
Yet I always believed education could change my future.
With support from missionaries who helped me stay in school, that belief became the foundation of Suubi.
Today, Suubi creates inclusive opportunities for underserved children, young people, and women through education, catch-up learning, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment programs. We believe children thrive when learning is adapted to their needs, abilities, and pace.
We also believe women are the foundation of strong communities. Through our Women’s Development Project, we support women to start, manage, and grow small businesses through entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, mentorship, and access to startup loans. By empowering women economically, transformation begins at the household level and extends across entire communities.
At Suubi, we are building communities where hope is not just imagined, but lived.
